Following the Vatican decree on 20 March 1949, the statue of the Holy Virgin of Noli Me Tollere was first crowned on 26 May 1950. The Shrine was especially redecorated for the event, garnished with flowers and hand-woven table clothes, offered by the best women artisans in town, were laid on the altars.
On 6 April 1949, decisions were made as to the crowns for the statue, hence 994 grams of gold were obtained by choosing the votive offering of lower artistic value subsequently melted and worked by a Milanese goldsmith.
On 26 March 1950, the President of the Commitee, Mr. Giorgino Bagella, the cashier, Mr. Francesco Piras, and the secretary, Mr. Gavino Nali, went to Rome together with Father Federico da Baselga and the monastery Father Superior, Marco da Villasor. There, Pope Pio XII consecrated the crowns. The coronation took place on 26 May, in the morning. The multitude gathered to pay their tribute.
The statue of the Virgin was taken to the parish church in a procession, and after a solemn mass it was brought back to the Shrine, placed on the altar in the porch, and crowned.
The Archbishop of Sassari, Arcangelo Mazzotti, crowned both the Baby and the Virgin first, and served the mass afterwards. Later that day, lunch was served for more than 100 people amongst the Capuchins and their guests in the refectory and the cloister.
In the refectory of the adjacent nursery, lunch was served for another 30 people, including local authorities, bishops and priests. The Farmers Committee offered both receptions.
